How It Started

We start with the best quality grapes possible. Our first grapes came from Northern California’s winemaking sweet spot, the 39th parallel. Today, we grow grapes in the very best regions across California. Our talented winemaker and his team ensure every varietal tastes true to its nature—so our Chardonnay will always taste just like a Chardonnay should. And we put our very best into even the smallest details, so all you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy a glass of simply good wine.

Sustainability is a Key Ingredient

To us, great flavor comes with accountability — that’s why we’re fully transparent about the way we make our wine. We’re committed to sustainable practices that are good for everyone — our team, our land, our partners, and our fans.

From working with certified sustainable growers to responsibly recycling our wastewater, we’re integrating sustainable, environmentally friendly practices into every part of our winemaking process, with a goal of becoming a fully sustainable operation. We’re honored to have received official Certified California Sustainable Vineyard Winery certification from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance for our efforts, and we’re continuing our conservation work to protect the fields, vineyards, and communities we call home.

Meet Steven Decosta

  • Line 39's Natural Born Winemaker

Steven DeCosta knew what he wanted to do long before most of us had a clue. At the tender age of 12, associating the presence of wine with good food and happy family gatherings, he set out on a path that would solidify his place in California’s prestigious winemaking world. He studied chemistry and microbiology, earning a degree in Enology from California State Fresno in 2010, and has been using a balance of science and physical craft to make elegant, approachable wines ever since.

  • Today's Steven DeCosta

Today, Steven DeCosta leads a team of talented young winemakers who work with grapes from premier appellations across California. Their varietal focus is on aromatics and honest flavors everyone can enjoy — from traditional reds to vibrant whites. DeCosta also oversees research and development and introduces new technology that can deliver on Line 39’s promise of scaling the boutique wine experience, so that good wine can exist in everyone’s glass.

Good Grapes. Good Relationships

Crafting high quality, true-to-nature wines starts with good grapes. And good grapes come from our lasting relationships with California’s premier growers, many of whom come from the region our wine is named after. The 39th parallel runs through the heart of Northern California’s wine country just North of Napa Valley and has always provided rich tradition, inspiration, and yes – grapes!, for our blends. Today our relationship with growers extends beyond this winegrowing epicenter to include the equally superb cool-climate areas along the Central Coast, the sun-drenched vineyards around Lodi, and the rich variety of terroirs in Sonoma County. All our vineyards foster slow, even ripening of the grapes, enabling us to produce wines with a perfect balance of rich, ripe fruit flavors and crisp acidity.

In other words, to us, Line 39 is more than a place – it’s a state of mind. One that can only come to life through the relationships we build with California’s most talented growers.
